Printmaking
These works from graduate school (2005-2007) were inspired by time, memory, presence & absence. I titled this series Records & States. The print processes afforded me a way to conceptualize the passage of time via markmaking systems and repetition. Records are a body of information based on memory, expanses of time counted in weeks and days. Lengths of time were broken down into measurable amounts, documented through mechanical methods including typewriters and numerical stamps. These monotypes represent the breakdown of time and memory, lending physical form to the intangible. The accompanying body of work, States, are anthropomorphic domestic objects, familiar yet menacing. This imagery symbolizes the fading of memories and struggle to hold onto something that no longer exists.
