Drawing
These drawings are inspired by travel, loss & family-most notably, the dispersion of a family unit across time and place. I began this series during my first artist residency outside of Florence, Italy and the theme continued through my latest residency outside of Naples. The shallow scenes are obvious constructions, images overlapped & stacked like scenery in a diorama. The background patterns flatten the space further. From tornadoes to escaped balloons, deserted islands to picket fences, these illustrate the space between past and present, lost and found.

In my family's living room, large maroon, green and blue flowers were papered next to the fireplace. These wall coverings have long since been removed & the rooms painted solid. The lingering image of those patterns remain and I suggest the familiarity and comfort of past places through the repetitive designs in my drawn backgrounds...
